About The Role As a Data Engineer, you’ll design and optimise the data infrastructure supporting a major analytical transformation program. Reporting into senior leadership, you’ll collaborate with analysts, data scientists and executives to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions. The Government department is headquartered in Canberra but you can work remotely form anywhere in Australia.You must have a Baseline Security clearance to applyBenefits

• You can work fully remote from anywhere in Australia
• Day rate range of $1,000 to $1,100 depending on experience

Duties/Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance, cloud-based data infrastructure
• Develop and optimise robust ETL pipelines and data integration workflows
• Work with diverse data sources to ensure high data quality and availability
• Support analysts and data scientists with reliable data models and architecture
• Create clear documentation and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams

Skills and experience

• Proven experience in data engineering across cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)
• Proficiency in SQL and ETL development
• Strong understanding of data integration, data modelling, and transformation
• Familiarity with tools such as R Shiny, SAS, Power BI, and Qlik
• Sound knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
• Experience delivering training and building capability across teams
