Software Engineer (Ruby)
Job Description
Posted on: July 29, 2025
💻 Mid-Level Ruby Developer
Remote-first (UK-based, ideally North West)
£55,000 – £65,000 DOE
Use your Ruby skills to solve real-world challenges – not just ship apps.
We’re partnering with one of the UK’s most exciting, fast-scaling SaaS companies — quietly building a product that's winning big in their space. With triple-digit growth over the past year and an ambitious roadmap ahead, this is your chance to join a team where your work will have immediate impact.
They’re not chasing headlines — they’re focused on building a powerful, modern platform with a smart team, solid values, and a culture that genuinely nurtures and rewards good people.
What You'll Be Doing:
You’ll be part of a collaborative, product-focused engineering team working on a platform that helps customers simplify complex problems with elegant, scalable tech.
- Writing clean, maintainable Ruby (Rails) code to power business-critical systems
- Pairing with teammates, contributing to peer reviews, and championing shared ownership
- Helping evolve and scale a well-structured, well-tested backend architecture
- Integrating external APIs, and building new features that directly improve user workflows
- Contributing to CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure deployments, and occasional bug hunts
- Supporting and owning technical decisions in an agile, collaborative environment
- Helping to shape technical documentation, architecture choices, and process improvements
The Stack:
Ruby on Rails | PostgreSQL | AWS | Docker | Terraform | GitHub Actions | GraphQL & REST | ClickUp & Notion
What We’re Looking For:
You don’t need to tick every single box – but here’s what will help you hit the ground running:
- Commercial experience working in Ruby (Rails ideally) on production systems
- A good grasp of relational databases (PostgreSQL is a big plus)
- Comfort working in agile product teams, and writing code that’s easy for others to build on
- A strong handle on testing (RSpec experience a bonus), CI/CD pipelines, and version control
- Some exposure to cloud-native tools (AWS preferred) and containerised environments
- An appetite for learning – whether it’s new tools, frameworks, or better ways of working
- Knowledge of secure development principles and how to build for resilience
Why Join?
- Remote-first setup: Work from anywhere in the UK, with optional Manchester meetups
- Supportive team culture: Engineers who care about clean code, pair programming, and continuous learning
- Real technical ownership: Your voice will help shape the direction of the product
- Complex problems, meaningful impact: This isn’t pixel pushing – you’ll work on software that drives real business value
- Growth without burnout: A calm, curious, and values-driven environment that rewards initiative without ego
If you're a Ruby developer looking for a place where your work feels purposeful – and your team genuinely has your back – we’d love to hear from you.
