Job Description

Posted on: April 29, 2026

The Association for Rental Living (ARL) is the UK trade body for Build to Rent and the broader rental living sector — 300+ members, 83% of operational BTR nationally, and a mission to raise standards across an asset class that now houses hundreds of thousands of residents - with the potential to deliver 2 million additional homes.

We are at an inflection point. The BTR Alliance Code of Practice launches at UKREiiF in May. The Renters' Rights Act commences on 1 May 2026. Ops Benchmarking (ARL's proprietary operational data programme) is moving to publication. The Market Directory is being built. And we are growing.

To support that growth, we need a Director of Operations — our first dedicated senior operations hire reporting to the CEO.

What this role is:

→ Building and running the operational infrastructure of a lean, high-performing trade body.

→ Leading marketing and communications – especially to members

→ Managing commercial relationships: sponsorships, partnerships, supplier contracts.

→ Overseeing a small, highly motivated team

→ Co-ordinating, delivering, resourcing and prioritising multiple projects, including events

→ Making sure nothing falls through the gaps — from Board decisions to event P&Ls to Directory listings.

What we're looking for:

5+ years in operational management – Ideally (but not essentially) within a membership body, trade association, event-led organisation, or professional services environment. Commercial relationship management experience. Marketing and communications experience. Systems-builder, not just systems-operator. Comfortable producing Board papers. Willing to roll up your sleeves. Ideally knows what BTR is - or will by week two.

Home-based but able to meet regularly in London and attend some meetings around the UK.

Salary range £55,000 - £70,000

If you are interested or know someone who should be, please contact Rachel or send a CV and brief covering note to rachel@thearl.org.uk.

Application deadline: 15 May 2026.
